About

Purpose

The purpose of the website is to provide easily accessible resources for anyone who wants to use philosophical conversation as a method for either lecturing, or just for fun.

Philosophical conversations test people´s ability to go in depth, see contexts, think critically and relate different topics to society and their own lives. Moreover, it can train people to see things from different perspectives and exchange thoughts in a respectful atmosphere.

The philosophical conversation is thus in line with the objectives of in-depth learning and interdisciplinary teaching and is an arena for democratic formation and critical thinking.

The target group for the website is primarily teachers who teach at grades 8-10, but the material could also be used in high school.

The activities have been prepared in connection with the curriculum for moral and ethical subjects, but the topics are interdisciplinary and relevant in many subjects, such as social studies, Norwegian, English, science and electives such as Democracy in practice and International cooperation.

In addition, the resources can be useful for anyone who wants to invite philosophical conversations with people of all ages.

Contents

The main part of this website, «Moral conundums», contains, as the title implies, short moral conundrums. They require a dialogue-based form of teaching for the optimal experience, but similar results can be gained in many other ways - be creative!

To recap, on that page are a few riddles that can be used directly in the teaching, or that can be adapted for your own use. You can navigate with the menu in the top-left corner of the screen.

The Norwegian Directorate of Education (Utdanningsdirektoratet) have since 2018 emphasized «ethical reflection», being «able to take other people´s perspective» and «exploring existential questions and answers» as central elements in moral and ethical subjects.

I hope that this site´s contents can be a useful tool for creating good classroom dialogues, or any good form of dialogue in general.

My Instagram page

I have my own Instagram page where I will publish learning material and other programming-related things every now and then. I will be open for feedback, discussion, and questions regarding anything within reason.

Chances are I am going to post a bunch of completely random things on that page, both on- and off-topic. If you are up for that, the link is on the «Contact» page.
Have fun getting tired of me.
