Høsten 2023 dro Intel duken av den aller siste prosessorgenerasjonen med «i5», «i7» og «i9» i navnet, nemlig den 14. generasjonen Core. Tre eller seks modeller ble sluppet, alt etter hvordan man definerer det: Intel Core i9-14900K/KF, Intel Core i7-14700K/KF og Intel Core i5-14600K/KF.Sammenlignet med forrige generasjon, også kjent under kodenavnet «Raptor Lake», ser vi at det ikke den helt store forskjellen. Så er også kodenavnet på den nyere generasjonen «Raptor Lake Refresh». Dette røper at selv ikke Intel ser på denne prosessorgenerasjonen som noen stor revolusjon.

The $449 eight-core Ryzen 7 7800X3D is the new high-performance gaming champion for the desktop PC. Even though the Ryzen 7 7800X3D is much less expensive than its competitors, it’s still 12% faster in gaming on average than Intel’s $580 flagship Core i9-13900K and up to 40% faster in some titles, and it also beats the fastest gaming CPU currently available — AMD’s own $699 16-core Ryzen 9 7950X3D.

The new Raptor Lake Refresh line of processors are just that—a refresh. There is no new silicon, no hardware-level changes, but just generational clock speed uplifts for each SKU compared to its predecessor from the 13th Gen, the addition of a couple of features for the Core i9-14900K; but the Core i7-14700K is the most interesting part from the three processor models Intel is launching today.

The new Core i5-12400F isnt just a locked, lower-clocked sibling of the i5-12600K we reviewed last year. In fact, we couldnt simulate this chip by underclocking that one. This is because the i5-12400, i5-12400F, i5-12500, and i5-12600 (non-K) have a different core-configuration from the i5-12600K and i5-12600KF. With "Alder Lake," Intel introduced its Hybrid CPU core architecture to the desktop segment. For the i5-12600K/KF, this meant four "Gracemont" Efficiency cores (or E-cores) besides the six "Golden Cove" Performance cores (or P-cores).

he Intel Core i3-13100F comes to market with big shoes to fill; its predecessor, the Core i3-12100F, built a reputation as the best budget CPU for gaming. Intel is obviously looking to repeat that success, but perhaps the Core i3-13100F follows in the footsteps of its predecessor too closely — the company repurposed the previous-gen design for the Core i3-13100, so it has the same four p-cores paired with an ever-so-slightly-improved 200 MHz higher boost clock of 4.5 GHz.

The Ryzen 5 5600 is based on the same "Vermeer" multi-chip module as the 5600X, which makes it better endowed than the 5600G even though it lacks integrated graphics. The "Zen 3" CCD (chiplet) comes with six out of eight CPU cores enabled, which share the full 32 MB L3 cache available; unlike the 5600G, which is based on the "Cezanne" monolithic silicon with just 16 MB of on-die L3 cache. Also, the Ryzen 5600 features PCI-Express Gen 4 support for the x16 graphics and a CPU-attached M.2 NVMe slot, while "Cezanne" is limited to PCIe Gen 3.
